So, at work this morning, I got a call from some guy at RealKeywords (they’re trying to do what RealNames was doing before Microsoft fucked them over). I let him take 5 or 10 minutes (of my not really listening) to give me his schpiel and then he stopped (to breathe I guess) and I slipped in a quick ‘we’re really not interested at this point.’

He promplty replied “thank you” and slammed the phone back on the hook.

Great salesman there… I’d definitely look forward to hearing them again.

(BTW, the thing that told me we’re not interested? He said that the service only works if someone installs their ‘plug-in‘. Not even remotely interested in that, sorry. Google works too well.)

Hi john im an employee of Realkeywords.com I’ve notice your very professional web site reguarding our services…Well john the reason the rep slammed he phone down after you muttered you were not interested is because you obviously were not listening to him and waisting his time because if u had you would know that its completely different than Realnames that yes did get shut down by Mr. Gates which we had nothing to do with.. Our service work through the 7 major search engine (includding your precious google) as well as the address bar of internet explorer so john next time you take your company time to write such an unprofessional opinion you should prob research the product alittle better…If you were waisting my time on the phone i would have hung up aswell because time is money

Brian I bought 4 key words from you a month ago. I recieved a total of 430 clicks before it quit working on or about 4/19/03. That totals to over $8.83 a click. What happened ? Why did you do it? Do you have any response to why you took my money? Don’t I at least deserve some kind of explanation about what I spent $3800 for? Is your company done for? Can I expect anything?

If you hear from Rob Ward (www.hunton.com)he is retained by AMA. He will probobly be contacting you and Mr. J.P.Maguire in the next 2 weeks or so. If you wish to resolve this matter you can contact me at timblevins@att.net or call 903 667-2514.

This is an update. My problems with TafficWords still have not been resolved. Today I actually spoke with James Maguire. He assured me he would resolve the matter. If you are considering doing buisiness with them keep checking this site and I will keep you updated. If I am not able to resolve this matter fairly, I will be posting other info that may be of intrest or use.

Tim, I am with you, I paid (luckily with a credit card, since I am reversing the charges) about 1 month ago. I have been trying to contact someone at the company for about two weeks without any luck. Looks like a real scam. They say they are headquartered in about three different places, but it looks like all smoke and mirrors. If you paid with a CC, you might want to call your cc company and have them reverse the charges on yours as well. A firm that I have contracted with to do some SEO work, mentioned that they had done some work for trafficwords, and have never been paid.

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 Tim Blevins

Warning the TrafficWords website has disappeared. It has been renamed “SurfWise.com” . The scam evolves. If you are brave enough to do business with them be sure you pay by credit card so you can reverse the charges. Understand that for their keywords to work someone has to be duped into downloading a patch. Once someone has the patch loaded, every time he searches from title bar or browser he doesn’t get internet listings, he gets someones website. This gets anoying(self spamming). You could make your own patch and start selling keywords (Ha!). The key to stealing money would be — How many patches could you get downloaded to individual computers (if any, not really a neccesity except on your keyword customer’s computers)— How many businesses (customers) you can con. Money for nothing clicks for free !!

Even if you could live with all this, they can’t even take enough money out of their stash to pay there own sever, they (probably Jim McQuire personally) just con a new one. Let me make this clear. You buy keywords ( high as $5000 each ). You download an annoying patch. Just as you start to get really annoyed each time you want to do a search, “bingo” server down (months-not hours or days) and all your 1000s (yea right!) of new customers can’t get through. The good news, the annoying patch quits working on your personal machine for as long as the server is down, and somtimes longer.

    Best of Luck to You,

    Tim

Warning. Trafficwords.com has disappeared from the net and so has Surfwiser.com et al. I bought keywords in 2002 from trafficwords.com. Stupid me! What smelled bad at the time was bad. In August of 2003 a counterfeit bank draft for a supposed automatic renewal was presented and paid upon my bank account to a company called Internet Browser Keywords.com. I never authorized or requested the renewal. I filed a fraud claim with my bank and have found that Jim Maguire and his sister Marci Lumm are behind this whole operation. I have substantial info on these individuals. Lately they are unreachable. I filed a report to the FBI. Anyone who has been ripped off by these SOB’s should contact me so we can present an organized case to the FBI. These people are constantly morphing with new company names, new websites and possibly more fraud. Do not deal with these people. Good luck to you all.

    Ripped off in Florida.

I wish I would have found this information out about 6 months ago. I too have had the same scam pulled on me and my company. Luckily we negotiated to split the payment, but that didn’t stop them from making a fake check from our original and cashing both checks. For a while Jim Maguire was contacting me back assuring me that he would make everything right, but soon enough the phone numbers were no longer in service and no return calls or money happened.

Our bank is beginning the process of reporting this to the police…I hope they find them and lock em up.

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 Lyn

Just a heads up…the new name (or at least the one that the draft check was addressed to) is Internet Business Solutions or IBS. They took the information from a check written to them in 2001 (I wasn’t very knowledgeable about anything “internet” then) and posted a draft with the old check #, the old company address and the old company name. Good thing my bankers are on their toes. Oh, and IBS’s company name in 2001 was NLS, Inc.

Jim Mcguire is a big scam artist and i thought he could be trusted. Well i was wrong like a lot of other people down his road of deception. I hope someone out there has the time to get rid of him so he can’t do this to other company’s

P.s. he really needs to get heip with is problem in life. Someone please help by turning him in the the authorities.

Trafficwords.com in Palm Beach, FL has been billing me for keywords (after my contract expired)under the name of JM & M Consulting. They do not list a phone number now and their address does not exist. I believe this is fraud and a revolving type of scam. I just found this out recently. Yes, I am a little slow to discover that there are criminals out in the net who escape pretty easily with our money.

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 Frank

If you have complaints about Jim Maguire and Realkeywords.com (aka Trafficwords.com) and similar “natural language” businesses that have evolved from them, you can report your information to the FBI on their website https://www.ifccfbi.gov

    Hi all,

I (and a lot of others) have recently bought into a similar product. They did not tell me (until after I bought) that only people with their plug-in would be able to see my webpage. I think the “hits” I see are manipulated by them, and not real. I could not ever prove that. They also lied outrageously to me. They said Yahoo! had bought the parent company, that it was getting ready to go public, that the thousands of hits they sited for June of 2004 were all people who had the plug-in. I was a dope, but I hope to get the word out so no one else looses their hard earned money.

Can anyone provide evidence my guys (see below) are connected to the people you reference above? Does anyone have a success story to relate regarding getting money back or getting any of the crooks caught? Here is what I know: I delt with Exclusive Position or Exclusive Positions. Their parent company is SearchClimbers. The director of E.P. is Charles Lloyd, my sales rep was Dava Voss, her immediate boss is Rhonda Spears. At SearchClimbers, I spoke to a Bill Masters (who seemed pretty nice)and he forwarded my complaints to John Stewart. A man named Jay or John Sloatman sent me an email today in responce to my on-line allegation that SearchClimbers is a scam. Said he was sending my email to the legal department. I also found a very interesting report on Google with a “Charles Lloyd and his company, Healthcare Claims Network, Inc doing business as Med Data Solutions, are banned from promoting or selling…etc” and I hope to find out if they are the same Charles Lloyd!

More names I know are connected to Exclusive Positions: I understand that they used to be called getrealkeywords and maybe realkeywords. I mention all this so anyone wanting to research any of the above will be able to find this whole discussion. I would so welcome hearing from you if you know if my people are connected to your people. I REALLY appreciate the comment from the ex-employee.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 Sharyn

Update: I have been in touch with Jay Sloatman, and he seems to be very concerned about my experience as mentioned on 8/26. He says he is going to get my money back! Also, he said they were never connected to realkeywords or some of the names with real in it in my 8/26 post.

He sounds genuinely excited about his product, and genuinely concerned if resellers are using lies and ommissions to sell phrases on his company’s behalf.

We will see what happens. Just wanted to keep the record straight.

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 Michael Gannett

SearchClimbers: got “sold” on purchasing 7 keyword phrases by Dava Voss. Then I got cold feet after searching IDG Keywords on Google. I hadn’t paid, so no harm. But Dava continued to pound… even kicked me up to the owner, Charles, who does a smooth talk. “We’re not IGetNet”. I said I’d read further about them… he then said he would have Dava call my competitors and hung up. Anyway, I’ve uninstalled their browser upgrade with the help of Ad-aware 6.181 and my IT person and am feeling it’s been a lucky day. By the way, Dava wouldn’t take a credit card… were willing to send a prepaid FEDEX envelope for my check. Sound legit and a little slimey?

I just heard from an old friend today about Jimmy. I always knew he was an asshole. They said they thought he was hiding in North Carolina in some hillbilly town. He even dissed his own brother Griff. I always felt sorry for Allie who fathered his Child. Hopefully she takes after her Mother.

Add me to the list of “I was stupid people”.

Not sure if my scam was the same one related to all yours but would like to hear from anyone who was taken by searchclimberswest.com out of Boulder Colorado. I got the same canned pitch about a 90 day money back guarentee if I did not get my 1100 promised hits on 3 keywords. Well were not even close. I go to log in and check out my hit status and abra cadabra the site has vanished along with all related phone numbers…

and my money may I add.I got a fax with the company name and a guarentee signed by Mercer Smith. Where are you Mercer..? Where is my Money Mercer..?Having a good time on the Beach and all is my guess or starting another scam somewhere ?

Well anyway I call searchclimbers/RocketPositons in Fla. which by the way is supposed to be the home office for all these scam artist. I ask for Mercer Smith and they go right ahead and put it through and a guy named Randy Answers. Again I asked for Mercer Smith and he says to hold. Randy gets back on and tells me he no longer works for them.Hmmmm…Who was the Person answering the phone trying to put me through to then. I tell them of my complaint. They tell me that searchclimberswest was a reseller and that he bellied up and that they will not honor any promises that were made by them. Well now…They

let them be a reseller of their product and let them misrepresent their product so I say they are as responsible as anyone else. I have a feeling all these resellers are in with the home office and go along for 6 months collecting funds and then belly up and move on to another state and do the same thing under another name and I think the home office is in on it all also. They also gave me a better price to send them a faxed check over credit card and I fell for that one too…

If anyone has had dealings with this outfit please e-mail me I got the Att. Generals of 3 states working on this and somebodys going to jail for my money because I am sure I will never see it again..

We were scammed by them 1-1/2 years ago. Luckily it was only $700. Thought we heard the last of them until we got a call the other day asking us to renew.

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 Mark

I got scammed also by mercer Smith, He is a lier and a thief. I went to the office in Colorado and it was shut down. The system does not work http://www.searchclimbers.com anyone with info on Mercer Smith or searchclimbers or searchclimberswest please email me at theflexer@aol.com I am not one to let this go and have the AG in 2 states and FBI on this but I want to find him myself.

  23. Gravatar Icon 23 Sasha

Have tried posting several times in reference to Jim Maguire but have never been able to get this posted.

I know exactly where in NC he is operating, have tried to get the local authorities involved but they say that the FBI has never heard of Jim Maguire. If you have filed a report with your state AG or the FBI, please email me with the info (contact name, case #) so I can pass it on before Jimmy disappears again. I haven’t been scammed by him but I am willing to help get him if somebody will give me something tangible, more than hearsay that he scammed you, that I can use to get my contact to act.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 witness

The feds came and got Jimmy yesterday. I had no idea what was going on…so I googled his name, and this is what I got. Whoa

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 nobody

The word is, Mr. Jim Maguire… is in federal custody as of the 22nd. He is in guilford county, greens bouroy.. north corolina jail, phone: 336 641 6524

Someone emailed me with the same info as ‘nobody’ posted. I live in the same area where he was arrested so I called Guilford County Sheriff’s at the number above – sure enough they are holding him.

Many thanks to whoever finally got through to the right people to get him. God knows that I tried and hopefully, I helped.

Jimmy was operating his latest ‘business’ in Burlington, NC. Funny thing is, he failed to obtain the necessary business privilege license. If iBS Labs was a corporation, he also failed to file with the NC Secretary of State.

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 nobody

I am glad to see someone finally caught him. Does anyone know his charges and if he can get out?

I just got a call from some guy named Rick from Superphrases.com- The deal did sound too good to be true and after doing a little research, it seems like this guy is another “reseller” of the program being talked about here. However, there hasn’t been a post in over a year and I was wondering if anyone had any updates. Please keep me informed- and watch out for this guy as well!

  29. Gravatar Icon 29 Gordon Fuller

Confirmed: Superphrases.com is Keywordsllc.com is Starposition.com is Webmenu.com; they are all the same scam, see:

    http://www.offshoreinfo.com/scam.htm
    http://www.techvibes.com/idealbb/view2321.html

A great way to confirm is to attempt to contact “superphrases” testimonials (http://superphrases.com/testimonials.htm), you will only get one response, which is a plant anyways.

Even better, compare “superphrases” testimonials to “starposition” testimonials, they are strangely identical??? Hmmmmmm…..

  30. Gravatar Icon 30 Childhood acquaintance

I had the misfortune to know Jim Maguire in school in Horseheads, NY, his hometown (don’t blame our little town). The signs of the man were there already. He stole from his fellow cub scouts. He bullied classmates. He was caught when he was in fourth or fifth grade of sending extremely filthy messages to a girl (this was about 1975) that were so serious the entire class was held all day as the teachers interrogated each student. And those are just the few incidents I know of! In other words, T-R-O-U-B-L-E from the start, so I can’t say I’m surprised. As they say, “Show me the boy at five years of age and I will show you the man”. An observation: He’s not clever enough to run from the law forever.
Any update on the NC arrest? And Tim Blevins, you promised an update, too… any news?

  31. Gravatar Icon 31 old aquantance

What ever happened to this guy? Is he still in prison? I played baseball with him. He was a pretty decent pitcher. Must admit that he was heading down some wrong path’s. Am curious as to what ever happened or if he still is locked up

  32. Gravatar Icon 32 Sasha

Update on James Patrick Maguire: I spoke to someone in the Greensboro NC FBI office about him a few years ago. According to the agent, he pled guilty to wire fraud or counterfeiting checks after being arrested in December 2004 and was sentenced to 18 months in prison (I think at the FCI Terminal Island near Long Beach, CA). He was released on June 5, 2006 according to some notes I had from December 2006. However, I checked the Bureau of Prisons website today and it gave a release date of 6/13/2008. I don’t know if they found some additional charges and he had additional time added to his sentence. You can check this out on http://www.bop.gov/iloc2/LocateInmate.jsp

I think I have a new one they are called toppositions.org dba webmenu.com they sold me three keywords and then told me the price I jumped out of my seat. I purchased two keywords for 1600.00 they gave me a deal I think, right. they said it would take three days to finalize the deal and we tried to install the tool bar and my anti virus stopped it and they said they will help me take care of it on monday, fed ex was comiing to get the check on saturdayI cancelled it that morning, I said ok. I tried several times that friday night to try to load the tool bar and it got worse from there. I called them back two ours after I signed up for this and they had my checking account info and I was sick. they blew me off twice that night and I called back one more time to cancel this thing and they where all closed for the weekend But did leave some nasty messages. They did call me back on monday and said I signed a contract that was not going to be cancelled for any reason and they will send me to collections if I didnt pay. I closed the account and they have called me back to offer me one keyword for 900.00 and I hung up on them. Can they really send me to collections and they said it will be 4000.00 I owe them if that happens.
