I can't imagine forking over money for a mail client in the year 2003 that doesn't support HTML messages.

HTML messages are ubiquitous now. Without being able to natively read HTML mail you are missing out. Maybe **some people** can express themselves with _ascii_ but most people in the real world like to have the option of rich text formatting.

The sad thing is, practically every human being on this planet has a hotmail address they use at some point, be it for spam protecion, anonymity or for their i_use_extra_small_condoms.com account - this limits your choices to using a mail app that supports Hotmail OR using one mail app and then signing into the hotmail page - no thanks.

There'sa plug-in for Mail.app to enable Hotmail functionality, and I use Entourage with it's built-in Hotmail support.. but it feels chunky.
