Douglas Bowman’s comparison of Dialup vs. Broadband is quite enlightening. It’s been about 5 years since I went broadband, and I have to agree… without it the web sucks. I really just don’t surf the net at all, if I’m forced to use dial-up… I find something else todo, which, makes Bush’s Broadband by 2007 comments sound pretty neat, but also wasteful as a way to spend tax-dollars.

If you’re reading this site via RSS, I apologize for the multiple postings of my “daily links”. I saw the bug earlier this week and through it’d fix itself, but it hasn’t.
I just made a few changes to the site code to try and shut down the errant postings… The problem is I’m not 100% sure where the postings are coming from, so hopefully, I’ve squashed the bug. If not, I’ll try something different tomorrow.

It’s too early to tell if it would be wasteful or not. I don’t think you can create a truly modern society without some strategic government investment in infrastructure. On a local level, think of power lines and water/sewer lines. On a national scale, think of the interstate highways (a mixed blessing, to be sure).
A quote from the article about the speech on MSNBC:
“that affordable high-speed Internet access be available to all Americans by 2007, saying it was essential to the nationís economic growth.”
Essential to the nation’s economic growth? Huh? All this time I thought it was significant job growth.
